“Man is constantly searching for a better way." —a better way to learn, live and earn. Evolution and change happen at every level and affect everything, including how we work.
This post is aimed at providing real-life, practical steps to increase earnings as a freelancer by exposing opportunities.
Me being a programmer, I’ll give more examples of how and what to do with your programming skills to jumpstart your career as a newbie or boost your earnings as an expert.
People newly starting in the tech industry often tend to apply for entry-level positions, which of course is the logical thing to do to acquire practical work experience.
This post assumes that:
You are confident in what you can do.
- you recognize that you don't know everything and that you must constantly seek to learn while working and earning.
You are deliberate about earning as a freelancer.
It is worth noting that the ways I’m about to outline are 100% sure and have nothing to do with freelancing gig sites like Upwork, Fiverr, Glance, etc. It is also not easy, but with perseverance and determination, it will all be worth it.
What you need to get started are your coding skills, a lot of discipline, tenacity, a good working PC, and an internet connection.
Exercise, rest, sleep, and healthy eating are important. Do not neglect that.
What we will be doing is creating. Two major ways to make money is
I Create something
II Add value
This tutorial will focus on creating two things:
- products
- contents
- PRODUCT: with the skills we have acquired, we will be building programs, software, websites or templates for sale on Envato Market.
If you are a developer, you can make use of websites like Behance and Pinterest to get UI design concepts and code these designs into HTML templates and/or scripts for sale.
Example: If you have 100 users purchasing your HTML template for $15—$20 each, it means you will be making $1500—$2000 from the sale of that template. For designers and creatives, the same applies to logos, apps, and web UI template designs using tools like Adobe XD, Sketch, or Gravit Designer.
With time, you’ll get better and more creative therefore, your earnings will also increase. You can begin to collaborate with other designers and developers to make bigger projects and sell at higher amounts. This is pretty straightforward but not easy to reach full flight. All you need is to put your skill to good use and a lot of patience to get the bucks rolling in.
-CONTENT: this is equally straightforward. Teach people how to solve their problems, meet their needs, or learn something new and exciting. Contents like this translate into money because there are people who are willing to pay for you know. Learn to document your ideas and knowledge in articles, tutorials, books, and vlogs and see how it goes for you. I enrolled in the medium partner program in April 2020. I monetised a post I made in February 2019 (now outdated) and by the end of February, I had earned $3. it’s little but imagine how much I would have earned if I monetised it in February 2019. this discovery sparked up this very post. If you can put out 2–3 great articles on medium every month, you’ll most likely be earning between $300 — $500 monthly or more.
Now enough of the imagination; get to work and build something. I just typed this post off my head. I know it’s not so great of an article but it’s out there anyway and that’s all that matters. We’ll get better with time.
If you wait for the perfect time, you may never get anything done. Start now and don’t stop.
Kindly share this post with your friends and on your social media. I will very much appreciate it. Thanks for reading.
